Energy storage
Doing More with Less
Energy storage is the key to a renewable energy transition. Energy storage systems are necessary for the time shifting of intermittent, and unpredictable renewable forms of electricity generation, like wind and solar power. Energy storage systems may also provide other crucial services to the grid such as frequency regulation, black start power, reserve capacity, and more. In order to provide a reliable and resilient energy grid, we must deploy energy storage systems.
This is why we developed the novel Ballast Energy Storage System (BESS) as our premier technology. The system works by storing electricity in the form pressurized water using compressed air. In order to generate electricity, the air is used to blowout the water in the pressurized tanked reservoir. The additional pressure acting on the water in the tanked reservoir increases the apparent head of the system without increasing the elevation. The tanked reservoir may release the water through a jet pump or ejector pump designed to entrain the water from the upper reservoir, or, use a dedicated penstock.
Upgrading Existing Hydroelectric Power Plants
With BESS, The Ballast Energy Storage System
Upgrading Hydroelectric Power Plants
Converts existing hydroelectric power plants into hybrid generation and storage power plants. Increasing their flexibility and contributions to the grid.
Upgrading Pumped Hydro Storage
Increases the storage capacity of existing pumped storage sites. While you cannot increase the height of existing sites, you can increase the power by adding pressure head.
Scrub and Store Gas Scrubber
The Scrub and Store Gas Scrubber is a unique technology inspired by the Trompe. Trompes are a water powered air compressor which use gravity to entrain gas within the liquid and compress it within an underground storage cavern. We replaced gravity with a pump and use an eductor venturi gas scrubber design to remove gas and solid pollutants. Gasses are compressed and stored within a pressure chamber. The pressure is regulated by a back pressure regulator. The compressed gasses may be bled out into a secondary pressure vessel, where gasses will be stored until needed. Turning a once waste gas into a valuable asset. There are various compressed air applications, making the system very flexible. Providing multiple energy recovery opportunities. One exciting application we have proposed is to use this system as a hybrid direct air capture and energy storage system. Atmospheric gasses are scrubbed removing particulate matter; most notably PM2.5 and more importantly carbon dioxide. Combating both the green house gas and fine particulate matter air pollution. The resulting compressed air may then be further compressed and stored for compressed air energy storage. Other applications include, ventilation, air conditioning, respirators and scuba tanks and even air separation to make rocket fuel among many others.

Marine Habitat Restoration
Seagrass meadows, Salt Marshes, Mangroves and Kelp forests are absolutely vital habitats. Not only do they all fight climate change. They hold the key to life in the ocean. These highly biodiverse habitats, support species directly by providing a shelter and an estuary as well as a food source. And support others indirectly through the food chain and improving the water quality, trapping pollutants and increasing the dissolved oxygen in the water. These habitats even have the potential to improve the health of coral reefs, mitigating the effects of ocean acidification and chemical pollution. These habitats also protect the coast from natural disasters, storms and erosion. The benefits of restoring these habitats are so vast it can seem to good to be true. We provide restoration services through our unique alginate based transplanting substrate. The transplanting substrate enables large scale, rapid restoration of more mature plants. We can now roll out seagrass like we roll out sod for healthy green lawns. An absolute game changer for restoration efforts around the world
